Exercise 1 को solve करने से पहले, इन tips और rules को ध्यान से पढ़ें। ये आपको सही answer तक पहुँचने में मदद करेंगे।
Rule 1: Sound पर Focus करें, Letter पर नहीं
(i) यह सबसे important rule है। ‘a’ या ‘an’ का use शब्द के first letter पर depend नहीं करता, बल्कि उसकी पहली ध्वनि (first sound) पर depend करता है।
(ii) Example: ‘university’ letter ‘u’ (जो एक vowel है) से शुरू होता है, लेकिन इसका sound ‘y’ जैसा है (जो consonant है)। इसलिए, ‘a university’ सही होगा। इसी तरह, ‘hour’ letter ‘h’ (जो consonant है) से शुरू होता है, लेकिन इसका sound ‘o’ जैसा है (जो vowel है)। इसलिए, ‘an hour’ सही होगा।
Rule 2: ‘A’ का Use कहाँ करें?
(i) ‘A’ का use उन singular nouns (एकवचन संज्ञा) के साथ करें, जिनकी शुरुआत consonant sound से होती है।
(ii) Consonant Sounds: ये वो ध्वनियाँ हैं जो vowels (a, e, i, o, u) की ध्वनियों को छोड़कर बाकी सभी ध्वनियाँ होती हैं।
(iii) Example: a book, a table, a dog, a car.
Rule 3: ‘An’ का Use कहाँ करें?
(i) ‘An’ का use उन singular nouns के साथ करें, जिनकी शुरुआत vowel sound से होती है।
(ii) Vowel Sounds: A, E, I, O, U की ध्वनियाँ।
(iii) Example: an apple, an elephant, an orange, an umbrella.
(iv) Tricky Words: उन शब्दों का ध्यान रखें जिनमें consonant silent होते हैं, जैसे: an honest person, an hour.
Rule 4: Abbreviation (संक्षेप) के लिए ख़ास ध्यान
(i) Abbreviations जैसे M.P., F.I.R., S.P. आदि में भी first letter के sound को देखें।
(ii) Example: M.P. का उच्चारण ‘एम’ से शुरू होता है, जो ‘e’ की vowel sound है। इसलिए, ‘an M.P.’ सही होगा। B.B.C. का उच्चारण ‘बी’ से शुरू होता है, जो ‘b’ की consonant sound है। इसलिए, ‘a B.B.C. report’ सही होगा।
Solving Tip:
(i) Exercise में दिए गए हर शब्द को जोर से बोलें।
(ii) जब आप शब्द बोलते हैं, तो ध्यान दें कि उसकी पहली ध्वनि (first sound) क्या है।
(iii) अगर पहली ध्वनि vowel sound है, तो ‘an’ लगाएं।
(iv) अगर पहली ध्वनि consonant sound है, तो ‘a’ लगाएं।
